Malaysia: Legoland Malaysia - A Review and Tips

Almost 4 weeks ago I wrote an entry on Legoland Malaysia following a preview trip that I took two weeks prior to the official opening of Legoland Malaysia on 15th October 2012. Since there has been a lot of interest shown in Legoland Malaysia, I thought I should also write a follow up to that entry, i.e. a review on Legoland Malaysia and tips on how to make the most of your day out there. I also thought that it might make a nice change if I could get a review from someone else, possibly a young family with young children, so that perhaps more readers can relate with their views and perspective.

So enter Natasha Hashim Kamil, a friend to a friend, who has been kind enough to share her no-nonsense views and tips following a recent trip to Legoland with her family (husband and 2 young boys aged 5 and 4).

The following are her views and tips for Legoland Malaysia:

1)     Wear super comfy clothes and shoes. You're going to walk A LOT under the HOT sun. No need for fancy makeup and jewellery and shoes. If you and your kids are used to Sepang F1 Circuit during race weekend, then you'll be fine.

2) Come early. We arrived at 9.30 a.m. and got a parking space very close to the entrance.

3) If you come early, the longest wait time would be 20 minutes.

4) Please be aware of some queue jumpers! They send their kids who will just cut your line. OR one person queues and when it's almost your turn, suddenly the mother, father, uncle, aunty, grandma, great grand aunt ALL arrive!

5) Please be enthusiastic, up-for-it parents. Don’t go because your kids have been nagging you and you just want to shut them up... because it WILL be a long day.

6) A meal of jumbo hotdog/ burger with fries and a drink costs RM22 per person. A kid's meal is RM15.

7) Outside the main entrance, there are some retail outlets, restaurants and food and drink kiosks such as Burger King, KFC, biryani, Absolute Thai, Tutti Frutti, Nelson's Corn and others.

8) We did ALL the rides except for two because my boys weren't tall enough. ALL rides means almost ALL allow kids of minimum height of 110 cm to go on. Some require them to be accompanied by an adult. While some allow them to go on their own. Majority of the rides allow adults to go on.

9) Restrooms are clean. There is a cleaner stationed IN the restrooms.

10) Surau is also available and it’s not some small room next to a restroom.

And last but not least...

11)  Make it worth your money. Experience every ride possible with your kids. It’s a good bonding session. It’s not a place for glamour and macho. Join in the kids' fun and enthusiasm. Be a KID. It’s worth it.

Considering that many have been asking how Legoland Malaysia compares to Universal Studio Singapore (USS), the following are Natasha's views:

1)     Legoland Malaysia is bigger.

2) USS rides are short and mostly for kids. Legoland Malaysia’s rides are longer (USS belum apa-apa lagi dah habis dah!), and almost ALL allow adults.

3) Quoting the words of my boys, "Legoland is Awesome. It’s nicer than Universal Studio", and it is.

How about a rating on Legoland Malaysia?

We don't think a theme park can be rated out of 10 or given a star rating or whatever. A good theme park should be rated based on how soon you want to return. As for Legoland Malaysia, right now I don't mind going back there next month. We went on a Saturday and the kids wanted to return on Sunday.

So what do you think, guys? Are you going to Legoland Malaysia? Or have you been there recently? Did you enjoy it as much as Natasha and her family did? Do share with us your own views and tips in the comment box below.

Going to Legoland and still looking for an accommodation? Legoland Malaysia Resort is obviously the nearest hotel to Legoland Malaysia. Prior to the resort completion however, Legoland Malaysia also recommended its visitors 4 other hotels:

    1.
 Legoland Malaysia Resort  (4*)
    2.
 Pulai Springs Resort  (5*)
    3.
 Thistle Johor Bahru  (5*)
    4.
 Hotel Sentral  (3*)

A note of appreciation and thank you goes to Natasha Hashim Kamil for sharing with us her views and tips above.

    1. Hi Lily,
Yes, I agree, each to his own. My views however do resonate with the above views as I do believe that Legoland Malaysia makes a very good outing for families with kids for its varieties of rides and attractions that cater to both adults and the youngsters. The facilities provided are commendable as well. And if you try them all out with family and/or friends, I believe you're bound to enjoy the place despite some of the drawbacks that Legoland might have.

  5. Tips:
    1. Pergi awal pagi supaya dapat maksimakan masa di situ. Ataupun, rancang perjalanan anda - macam saya minat Lego dari kecik, rides tu semua bukan keutamaan. Jadi, saya lama menjamu mata di Miniland :)
    2. Saya tersilap beli topi di The Big Shop, ingatkan semua free size, pakai rembat ikut color je, rupanya ada kids dan adult size.
    3. Bila pegi dengan anak2, turutilah apa yg diorang nak main. Macam saya dah menyesal tak penuhi permintaan anak (5 thn) nak main Rescue Academy sebab malas nak queue.
    4. Satu hari tetap tak cukup, memang kena pegi lagi hihi...

*Untuk peminat Lego tegar, dapat berdiri kat pintu gerbang dia pun dah rasa puas hati tak terhingga :)))

    1. Wahhh... peminat tegar Lego sejak kecil! Hehehe!

It's a good bonding session.

Apa-apapun, persoalannya sekarang, bila nak pergi lagi ni? ;-)

    2. Hi Anonymous1,

According to my friend who recently went scouting for hotels near Legoland, the nearest hotel is Pariss Hotel (http://parisshotel.com.my/) in Skudai. This hotel however is not listed in the link given by Anonymous2 above.

The second nearest hotel is Pulai Spring Resort, which is listed by Legoland.

You may also want to check listing of accommodation available as given in my earlier write up on Legoland here:

      Hope this helps a bit.

  7. Saya baru saje pergi hari rabu lepas.legoland ni bagi saya OK la kalau bawak anak2.Klu utk dewasa mmg tidak sesuai. Lebih baik klu pegi USS je.tmbh lagi rm45 dpt tiket one day non peak dekat USS.

    Apa yg best:
Miniland - kat sini ada taman mini lego (bandar KL,singapore, vietnam, dll)
    Surau dan toilet yg selesa

    Apa yg x best:
-Panas sgt-better bwk payung sbb klu hujan tempat teduh limited yg teramat
-Kene beratur lama2 : tempat beratur x selesa(panas) ditambah pulak dgn ada org -potong q lagi lagi bikin panas(maybe staff legoland kene jaga q nih)
-Kalau hujan banyak ride yg tutup.pastu xde pengumuman ride tu tutup. Sume beratur macam orang bodoh.APTB.
-Datang lambat kene la parking jauh (Almost 800m kene jalan kaki ke kaunter tiket)
    - Taman agak bersepah dengan sampah..kurang cleaner rasanya

Kesimpulan : Saya syorkan klu nak pergi, jgn pergi masa musim hujan. Pergi lah legoland dalam masa setahun lagi sebab saya tengok macam x siap lagi legoland ni.byk kekurangan nye.

    1. Hi, Spiderman!

    2. Saya setuju R.a.W.
