Malaysia: The Five Best Selection of Heritage Hotels in Melaka

Five Best Heritage Hotels in Melaka, Malaysia | Ramble and Wander

The rich Malay culture, combined with the strong roots of Chinese culture and the colonial heritage past of the Portuguese, Dutch and British make Melaka a perfect destination for travellers craving for some culture sightseeing and a pleasant stay. However, there are more than just the three aforementioned influences that make Malacca, or Melaka as the locals call it, a UNESCO World Heritage city. Rich in history of trading, it has taken in and been influenced by many traders that come in the past. More conveniently, Melaka is only 2 hours away from the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, promising a brief yet exciting wanders to any travellers. Here are the top five heritage hotels in Melaka from Traveloka.com to enhance your experience in the charming city:

1. Courtyard @ Heeren Boutique Hotel

The Courtyard at Hereen Boutique Hotel accommodates only 14 rooms, each designed and decorated distinctively with a touch of Baba-Nyonya Peranakan heritage and antique furniture. Along with the spacious rooms, bathrooms and thoughtful services, the hotel is easily a top choice for wandering around, as it is located in Chinatown. A two-minute walk will take guests to the popular Jonker Street.

2. The Majestic Melaka

The old-world design adds a certain charm to The Majestic Melaka, as its name suggest. Good-sized room and great beddings are among the small things the hotel pays attention to in serving its guests. Along with these is the massage service that is popular based on the recurring guests’ reviews, which also serves as a relaxing time after wandering around the city’s tourist spots. To reach the renowned Jonker Street, a few minutes’ walk is required, but the many local shops along the way from the hotel are surely worth a check.

3. Casa del Rio Melaka

Casa del Rio Melaka combines Mediterranean architecture and a knack of Dutch, Arabic and Chinese influences inside its 66 guest rooms and suites. The boutique hotel spices up the staying experience with superb bedding, spacious bathroom, a walk-in closet, and private balconies attached to each split-level bedroom. Stepping outside the hotel, a two-minute walk will take you to heritage attractions, including Jonker Street, with its must-check food stalls, and the grand church. Plunging to its comfort, do not forget to check the infinity pool overlooking Melaka city. As a bonus, the hotel has its own private jetty for the not-to-be-missed Melaka River cruise!

4. Jonker Boutique Hotel

A renovated 3-storey building with colonial style exterior at the very heart of Melaka's tourist attraction, Jonker Street, Jonker Boutique Hotel provides travellers with great modern ambience and spacious rooms. Besides having the advantage of being close to local attractions like Eye on Malaysia and A'Famosa, to mention two amongst other local attractions, the hotel is also a heaven for culinary-oriented tourists wanting to feast on authentic Peranakan cuisines and other mouth-watering Malaysian street foods in the surroundings.

5. Aldy Hotel

Matching the fiery red brick buildings of Christ Church, Aldy Hotel is iconic from the exterior, but inside it has a warm-impression tropical interior with a touch of atypical wooden furniture and rattan chairs accompanied with modern beddings and bathroom. Servicing 30 rooms, this boutique hotel also provides a jacuzzi for its guests to sit back, relax and enjoy the city scenery. Within walking distance are the most popular tourist spots, such as Stadthuys, Christ Church, and the Clock Tower, as well as Porta de Santiago, Dataran Pahlawan, Chinatown, and Jonker Street a bit further down the road.

    1. Melaka usually ranks quite high as a must visit destination (apart from Penang) in Malaysia and its location makes it easy for a (long) day trip from Kuala Lumpur. However, I would recommend at least 2-day trip or more if you're into history, culture and food.
